How to set up spectator ticket tiers for gate admission

Stop charging every visitor the same flat fee. Sell Adult, Child, and Weekend Pass tickets instead, let people buy more than one at a time, and see exactly who paid.

Decide: one flat fee, or several ticket tiers?

Every show already has a single Spectator Fee field on its Edit Show page — a flat price every visitor pays, or blank for free admission. That still works exactly as before, and it's all you need if everyone pays the same price to get in.

If you want to charge differently — say Adults pay $8, kids under 12 get in free, and there's a discounted Weekend Pass — you need ticket tiers instead. Tiers aren't an upgrade to the flat fee; they're an alternative. As soon as you add one ticket tier to a show, it replaces the flat fee entirely for that show.

This isn't an Expert-tier feature

Unlike vendors or sponsors, spectator ticket tiers work on Basic shows too — there's no upgrade prompt to get past.

2

Add your ticket tiers

Open the show and go to the Spectator Tickets tab, right next to Entry Types in the Setup group. Click Add Ticket and fill in a Ticket Name (e.g. "Adult", "Child", "Weekend Pass"), an optional Description for anything included with it, a Price — set it to $0 for a free ticket — and a Sort Order that controls which tier shows up first for visitors.

Add as many tiers as you need. You can edit or delete any of them later from the same tab. There's no cap on how many of a given tier you can sell — the same way an entry type's Max Entries field is informational only, ticket tiers don't enforce inventory.

3

Share the gate admission link

Open the Spectator Tickets tab and click Copy next to the Spectator Admission Link — it works the same whether you're using ticket tiers or the flat fee.

Share it wherever you'd share the registration link — social media, your newsletter, your website, or a QR code printed at the gate.

4

What a visitor sees

With tiers defined, the page shows each one to choose from, and a quantity picker from 1 to 20 — so one person can buy admission for their whole family or group in a single checkout. The price breaks down as ticket price times quantity, plus a small Car Show Expert platform service fee if one applies, before the total.

If the selected tier (or the running total for the chosen quantity) comes to $0, there's no payment button at all — just a note that admission is free and to come along. If you haven't added any tiers, the page looks exactly as it always has: a single price, no quantity picker.

Card only, and Stripe still has to be connected

Online spectator payment is card-only, exactly as it was before tiers existed. If you haven't connected Stripe for your organisation, the attend page tells visitors to pay at the gate instead — having ticket tiers doesn't change that.

See who paid: the Spectator Payments tab

Every paid gate admission — tiered or flat-fee — now shows up on the show's Spectator Payments tab, next to Sponsors. Each row lists the date, ticket name (flat-fee payments show as General admission), quantity, amount, and the Stripe payment ID for that transaction.

This is new — previously there was no record inside Car Show Expert of who had paid gate admission for your own show. It only reflects online card payments; cash collected at the gate still needs to be tracked yourself.

You're ready when you have

  • Decided whether a single flat fee or several ticket tiers fits your show
  • Added your ticket tiers with names, prices, and a sort order
  • Built and shared the /attend/[showId] link wherever you'd share registration
  • Confirmed Stripe is connected if you want online card payment to work
  • Checked the Spectator Payments tab to confirm payments are coming through

Ready to sell more than one admission price?

Spectator ticket tiers work on Basic and Expert shows alike — set them up free, or try it first on the live demo.
