How to reset a show for staff testing before the real event

You've been clicking through your own show — testing registration, running a few check-ins, maybe scoring a car or two — and now you want your gate and judging staff to practice on the same show before it goes live. Here's what Car Show Expert can actually undo, what it can't, and what to do about the gap.

6 min read·Check-in undo and registration edits on every plan · judging reset requires the show owner

There's no single "reset this show" button in Car Show Expert, and this guide isn't going to pretend there is. What exists instead is a handful of specific, targeted undo actions — one for check-ins, one for judging and voting data, and ordinary edit/delete controls for registrations. Used together, they get a show most of the way back to a clean state. One thing genuinely doesn't have an undo yet, and we'll tell you exactly what to do about it instead of glossing over it.

Undo your test check-ins

If you checked a few test entries in while trying out the check-in screen, you can put each one back to Confirmed so your gate staff can check it in themselves during their own practice run. There are two places to do this:

  • On the check-in screen itself, each checked-in entry shows an Undo control right after you check it in.
  • On the Registrations tab, any row showing Checked In has a small undo icon next to its timestamp — click it to revert that one entry to Confirmed.

Undo check-in has to be done one entry at a time — there's no "undo all check-ins" button. If you only tested a handful of entries this takes a minute; if you checked in dozens while testing, budget a few more.

One thing undo doesn't clear: if your testing happened to trigger the duplicate-check-in warning (for example, you checked the same car in twice while getting a feel for the screen), the flag that records that incident stays on the registration even after you undo the check-in. It's there on purpose — it's a permanent record for disputes, not test output — but it means a flagged test entry will still show a red "Flagged" badge in the registrations table afterward. If that would confuse your staff during their practice run, delete that registration and recreate it instead (see the section below) rather than relying on undo to make the flag disappear.

Parked status can't be undone yet

Here's the honest gap: once a check-in staff member (or you, testing the flow) taps Park on an entry, that registration moves to Parked status and there's currently no button anywhere in the product to move it back. The Registrations table shows the parked time, a map link, and a photo if one was taken — but no undo action next to it. Parking is meant to be the last step of check-in, not a status you'd normally need to reverse, so the UI simply doesn't expose a way to.

What to do about it: if you want your staff to practice the parking step specifically, don't park any test entries yourself first — leave them at Checked In (or Confirmed) so your staff has something to actually park when they test. If you've already parked some test entries while trying things out yourself, the only way to clear that status is to delete those registrations and recreate them (walk-in entries work well for this — see below), rather than editing the parked ones back to a clean state.

Clear judging data in one step

Judging is the one area with a genuine, purpose-built reset. On the show's Edit Show page, under a clearly marked destructive-actions section, there's a Clear judging data button. It permanently deletes, in one action:

  • Every judge score entered for the show
  • Every People's Choice vote cast
  • Every award assigned, and the "results announced" flags for both judging and People's Choice

It deliberately leaves your actual setup alone — classes, entry types, and judging configuration (categories, scoring criteria, judge assignments) are untouched, so you don't have to rebuild anything. You'll be asked to type the show's exact name to confirm before it runs, and the button shows you the real counts ("this will permanently delete 12 scores, 40 votes, and 6 awards") before you commit. There is no undo once you confirm.

This button only appears for the show's owner (or a super admin on the account) — a show-level admin member doesn't see it, even though they can otherwise edit the show. If you don't see it on the Edit Show page, you're not signed in as the account that owns the show.

Don't forget to check judging is actually open

Clearing judging data doesn't touch whether judging itself is open or closed. If you closed a class, closed judging for the whole show, or set an auto-close cutoff time while testing, those settings survive the clear. Head over to the Judging tab afterward and reopen whatever you closed, so your judges aren't locked out during their own practice run.

Removing test registrations

If you added registrations purely to test the sign-up flow (or to have something to check in or park while trying out the gate), you can delete them individually from the Registrations tab — open a registration's edit dialog and delete it from there. Deletion is permanent and only available to the show's owner or a show-level admin; staff and judges can't delete registrations. There's no bulk-delete option today, so if you created a lot of test entries, plan to remove them one at a time.

If instead you want to leave a handful of registrations in place specifically so your staff have something real to practice on, that works too — just make sure none of them are already Checked In or Parked (undo the check-ins as covered above, and avoid parking any of them before handing off).

A practical sequence before handing off to staff

  • Undo any check-ins you did while testing (one at a time, from the check-in screen or the Registrations tab)
  • Check for any registrations stuck at Parked — if there are any, delete and recreate them rather than trying to reset them
  • Run Clear judging data from the Edit Show page if you scored cars or collected People's Choice votes
  • Reopen any class or the whole-show judging toggle if you closed it while testing
  • Delete any registrations you only created for your own testing
  • Leave a few clean, un-checked-in registrations in place if you want staff to have real entries to practice on
